1) Who can play on the EIMS Modified Field Hockey Team? Any EIMS girl in Grades 7 or 8 (NOTE: If any 6th graders are interested in being Modified FH Team Helpers and/or participating in 6th grade practice sessions this spring during the Modified FH season, let Coach Fischer know.)
24) If a studnet is in the EIMS school musical, can she still come out for the team? Yes. Communication will be very important among the student, the coaches, the school musical director, and the family. Each season we work to make it manageable for students to particiapte in BOTH modified FH and the EIMS musical successfully.
25) Who is the Modified Field Hockey Coach? You have co-Coaches for EIMS modified field hockey: Coach Fischer and Coach Cooper. These coaches also coach the Eastridge varsity and JV field hockey teams. CLICK HERE to learn more.
2) When does Modified Field Hockey start? The first team practice will be after school on Monday, March 31
3) What is needed to be able to practice the first day? A completed online registration and clearance by the school nurse indicating that all health records on file with the school district are complete an up-to-date. CLICK HERE to access the online registration page HERE: https://students.arbitersports.com/organizations/east-irondequoit-central-school-district-athletics/
4) Where will practice be held? If the weather is still cold and unpleasant on March 31, the first week of practices will be held INSIDE at the Laurelton-Pardee School gym from approximately 3:15-5:15pm (If the weather is warm by Monday 3/31, we will most likely practice OUTDOORS on the turf at Eastridge stadium.)
5) How do players get to Laurelton-Pardee School or Eastridge Stadium turf? EIMS modified field hockey players will take an after school athletics shuttle bus from the middle school to Laurelton-Pardee or to Eastridge HS Stadium. Girls will change clothes after school in a bathoom at EIMS and then meet as a team in the EIMS cafeteria before boarding the athletics shuttle bus to practice.
6) Where is drop-off/pick-up area at Laurelton-Pardee School? We have been instructed to use the Laurelton-Pardee south side entrance that is adjacent to the sledding hills. This is the entrance for drop-off and parent pick-up. (PLEASE NOTE: For those who need it, there will also be a “grand circuit” late bus available after practices at Laurelton-Pardee gym.)
7) Where is drop-off/pick-up area at Eastridge High School? Players will not use the high school building. Instead, players will be dropped off and picked up near the gates to Eastridge stadium. (PLEASE NOTE: For those who need it, there will also be a “grand circuit” late bus available after practices at Eastridge stadium.)
7) What should I bring? Sneakers (required for all practices), water bottle and comfortable workout clothes (plus any field hockey equipment you own… but we will have plenty of sticks, shin guards, etc to borrow). Once we are outdoors, players are also welcome to wear turf shoes or cleats (though these are not mandatory). Note that cleats should be standard soccer shoes with rubber cleats (no metal).
8) What if I have never played field hockey? Absolutely NO experience necessary! We know this is entry level for almost all girls. All that’s needed is a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
10) How long is the season? The season begins with the first practice on Monday, March 31 and ends with the final game on Wednesday May 21.
11) When are practices? Practices are held after school Monday through Friday on any days that we do not have games. Practices usually begin around 3-3:15pm and end at 5-5:15pm. There are no practices on Saturdays or Sundays (but we do have a few Saturday games this season).
13) Where are home games played? All home games will be played outdoors on the Eastridge High School Stadium turf field. PLEASE NOTE: Field hockey is traditionally played in all types of weather, except lightning storms.
13) Where are away games played? Some away games will be played on the opponent school district’s high school stadium turf. Other games will be played on grass fields located at the middle school of the opposing team. PLEASE NOTE: Field hockey is traditionally played in all types of weather, except lightning storms.
16) How many games during the season? The first contest is a scrimmage on Friday, April 11. There are 11 games after that.
17) Is there an attendance requirement to be eligible to play in a contest? Yes. Players must complete 6 team practices in order to be eligible to play in a scrimmage or game. We start counting practices on Monday March 31.
18) When is the first scrimmage? Friday, April 11 at Eastridge High School stadium. The scrimmage starts at 5pm
19) When is the first game? Wednesday, April 23 at Webster Basket Road (turf field). The game starts at 5pm
20) How do the players get to our “away” games? A team bus will transport players and coaches to and from all away games. This is how it works: 1) Players change into their uniforms after school at EIMS.; 2) Players board the athletics shuttle bus to Eastridge.; 3) Depending on the timing of the team bus departing from EHS, players will meet at the stadium storage area prior to boarding the team bus OR the team will meet indoors in the athletic hallway prior to boarding the team bus.; 4) The team bus will pick-up and drop-off players at Eastridge High School (NOT at the middle school); 5) After all away games, parents should plan on picking up their players at Eastridge near the stadium gates.
21) When are games usually over? Games are usually completed in 1hr 15min (this includes the half time break). If it is an away game, there is travel time back to Eastrigde to consider.
22) Is there an academic eligibility requirement? Yes. CLICK HERE for more information.
23) Are spectators allowed at modified field hockey games? Yes. We hope you can attend and cheer on your daughter and her teammates. Monroe County rules state that spectators must be on the opposite side of the field from the side where the team benches are located.
24) If I am in the EIMS school musical, can I still come out for the team? Yes. Communication will be very important among the student, the coach, the school musical director, and the family. Usually a plan can be made so both can be done and expectations met.
25) Who is the Modified Field Hockey Coach? You have co-Coaches for EIMS modified field hockey: Coach Fischer and Coach Cooper. These coaches also coach the Eastridge varsity and JV field hockey teams.
