4/28 ModFH Suggested Practice Plan

Designed to reinforce work you did yesterday… keep players moving… introduce new 1v1 challenges so that players practice managing their space and possessing the ball. Note: You may not need as many water break s as indicated as it is cooler today.

fyi… Flag football has a 6pm game at EHS stadium today

3-3:15 - Team talk in goal cage (players should have all their gear, including water bottles)

3:15-3:25 - Dynamic Warmup

3:30-3:45 - Hits With Partners 15-20 yards apart (all hitting in the same direction)

  • 20 push passes

  • 15 front sweeps

  • 10 drives

*No reverse stick on stops - MUST get feet around

*Coaches should walk around and provide instruction and positive feedback

3:45-3:50 - Water break… all players either in goal cage or sitting in a circle with coaches somewhere on turf

3:55-4:10 - Ball carries

  • Everyone has a ball across width of field sorting at 50 yrd line

  • Dribble with large taps…. to end line … TURN towards RIGHT shoulder … and dribble back

  • Dribble with small taps… to end line … TURN towards RIGHT shoulder … and dribble back

  • Indian dribble… to end line … TURN towards RIGHT shoulder … and dribble back

  • Straight carry w/ball on stick the entire time… to end line … TURN towards RIGHT shoulder … and dribble back

  • FINISH with one quick round of SPEED DRIBBLE COMPETITION — everyone gets 1 try (time each player, track top 2 or 3 fastest)

4:10-4:15 Water break… all players either in goal cage or sitting in a circle with coaches somewhere on turf

4:20-4:35 - Elimination Skill Tires Toward Goal Cage

  • Set up two lines

  • Each line has 2 or 3 tires (representing opposing player) that they need to eliminate

  • Specify the elimination skill you want at each tire

  • When player reaches top of circle, she takes a shot on goal

4:35-4:40  Water break… all players either in goal cage or sitting in a circle with coaches somewhere on turf

4:45-5 - 1 vs 3 layers (this is a new one)

  • There are 3 layers of defense: 2 defenders and a GK

  • Each defender has a defined space in which to manage ball carrier and try to steal the ball. One defender is above (nearest ball carrier) and one defender is below (behind defender #1)

  • IF the ball carrier gets through the two defenders, she then goes 1v1 with GK and tries to score

  • IF one of the defender wins ball, they MUST make a turn toward sideline and carry the ball FLAT to hash marks that are parallel with the sideline

  • You can rotate all players through the ball carrier and defender positions

5-5:10 - Water and Stretching Circle with Coaches

5:15 - Leave Turf As A Team (2 lines with coaches)
