Dear 2022 EHS FH Seniors,

I am writing today to give each of you the opportunity to contact me with any questions / concerns or other information that you want to share with me pertaining to the upcoming FH season at EHS. Specifically, I want to give you an opportunity to tell me if you may be thinking that it is best for you not to continue with EHS FH this Fall.

I care greatly for all of you seniors. We have been through so much together. I have been looking forward to having a great senior year FH season with all of you, but I realize that priorities can change. Pressures from family, school and work are all very real. In addition, the world is an increasingly unsettling place. My hope is that your senior FH season will be a safe and happy activity that helps ease the other stresses and anxieties in your life. I want this season to be fun and fondly memorable for you.

However, if FH is no longer something that you look forward to — if it feels more of a burden than a fun experience that makes your day better — please let me know. I will miss the opportunity to share your senior FH season with you, but your happiness is most important to me. I will respect your decision. I will not be angry or pressure you to return to the team. I really want you to do what is best for you. As you have often heard me say, “Life is too short to spend it on anything that is not making you happy.”

On the other hand, if you feel that you want continue with FH for your senior season, that will make me immensely happy. But, it will be in your best interest to do some work this Summer to prepare for the Fall season. You can do that work with us at EHS on Tu/Th mornings 7:30-11:30am. Our early morning program provides an opportunity for you to easily get in the running, strength training and game play that will make you ready for the Fall season. If you cannot join us on Tu/Th mornings, then you should do your best to get the running and strength training done on your own. I will make it easy for you by posting simplified daily “at-home” workouts for you six days a week this Summer (all you have to do is complete 2 or 3 of the simple workouts per week to get in shape). I cannot make you do the work this Summer; that has to come from inside you (a desire to give you and your teammates your best season ever.)

NOTE: Summer workouts have grown in importance for EHS FH since the onset of Covid. For example, we used to keep EHS FH players active all Summer by participating in the Monroe County FH Summer League. Unfortunately, in the past few years, we have not been able to sustain the necessary number of players to enter an EHS team in Summer League. Additionally, we used to be required to have 10 preseason practices before our first scrimmage. For many years, we often had 12 practices and one scrimmage under our belts before our first game. Unfortunately, New York State guidelines have greatly reduced the number of required preseason practices (last year just six practices were required!). All of these changes mean that EHS FH players need to find a new way to establish a fitness base over the Summer in order to be ready to compete in a scrimmage or game on just day 7 of preseason. That is the simple — not great — reality of what we face. And THAT is why Coach Cooper and I volunteer our time in the Winter for Gym Floor Indoor FH and in the Summer for early morning Tu/Th workouts. We do it for YOU and your teammates. We want to give all of you the best opportunity to be ready for that first game.

Please know that I really and truly want what is best for you. Think carefully about what YOU want and then answer the survey question below and hit the SUBMIT button. I will acknowledge your decision via direct text to you once I receive your survey response. I absolutely — 100% — will respect your decision.

Thx,

Coach Fischer

P.S.

  • You should know that our EHS FH Preseason (mandatory practices) begin on Monday 8/22. Practices before school begins will run 7:30-11:30am M-F. Once school begins, after school practices will be approximately 3:30-5:30pm on days that we do not have FH games. Our season will be completed sometime between the last week in October and the first week in November.

  • You should know that we have a much more evenly matched and forgiving schedule than in previous seasons. This year we play Mendon, Sutherland, Brighton, Penfield, Fairport and Thomas just 1x each. We play Schroeder, Hilton, West Irondequoit and ER/GC 2x each. Our first game of the season is against Hilton (not Mendon as it always has been in the past). Our last game of the season (SENIOR NIGHT) is at home vs. Schroeder.

  • You should know that Coach Timmons had major surgery on June 1 and will not be returning to coach this Fall.

  • You should know that Coach Cooper is officially being hired as our assistant Varsity FH Coach for the Fall AND she is attending nearly all of our Summer morning sessions. I, personally, feel that the addition of Coach Cooper has the potential to be a game-changer for our FH program.

  • As for me, I have worked with many of you since middle school (some even before that). I enter this season with a positivity and energy that I look forward to sharing with all of you this Summer and Fall. I believe this team has the players and the talent to be competitive this season and to create happy memories for all of you!

FH SENIORS ONLY: Please complete the survey question below ASAP (no later than Sunday July 3). Be sure to hit the SUBMIT button when you are done.
