To Hannah 9/21

Trish NOTES FROM SCHROEDER VS IHS 9/20

  • Schroeder started game with a 4-3-3 formation

  • 3 deep defenders in diagonal… none go further than defensive 40 yd line

  • Later, Schroeder switched to a diamond formation like ours, but it had little impact on their play

  • Schroeder did not seem to have a preferred lane of attack. They carried ball down both sides (perhaps right side a bit more).

  • Schroeder has solid layers to pick up ball on eliminations that are too big. Tight eliminations will work, as will give and go passing, and also strong “freight train-like” carries to the right..  Left side is easier to beat than right side (especially in our attacking 1/3)

  • Schroeder started with a strong left defense (against right attack) in Q1 (they were able to shut down IHS right side attack)

  • For EHS, a Left side attack vs Schroeder (SCH) will be better.

    • #17 RB is strongest SCH defender

    • #14 LB is weakest SCH defender

    • #9 LM (red hair) is weakest of the SCH mids

  • Throughout the game, IHS had an easier time entering attack circle from left side vs. right

  • When having a right side breakaway, IHS had their most success sending a crossing between the 30 and 20yard line on a diagonal

  • SCH has #17 left side deep defender who is excellent at getting deeper than the ball in deep space and stopping a hard low crossing ball from right wing into circle. A checkmark pass could work, but #17 will be a formidable defender at the baseline.

  • IHS proved that extreme sideline carries can work agains SCH, but right crossing ball should be between 20-30 yard line (not lower)… On Left side, it will work better to carry ball on diagonal right to enter left side of attack circle

  • Also Salice and Nicole do quick give and gos’s on left side to move ball towards attack circle

  • SCH players MUCH slower in Q2

  • The SCH GK is ok, but not great. You can tell she is less experienced. Not great technique. We need to pressure her significantly and we will score.

Not a lot of variety in SCH corners

Q1

Corner 1 Left side - top direct hit #17

Corner 2 Left side - top direct hit #3 (scored on this direct hit… Cooper Holden)

Corner 3 Left side - top and dump right

Corner 4 Left side - top direct hit

Corner 5 Right side - top direct hit

Q2

Corner 1 Left side - top direct hit

Q3

Corner 1 Right side - Top and dump left

Q4

Corner 1 Left side - top and dump right

Corner 2Right side - flubbed the insert

PROPOSED GAME PLAN  (based on observations at 9/20 Schroeder vs IHS game)

  • EHS should focus on scoring early. Be up by 2 goals at end of Q1

How we accomplish this within the first 15min of the game:

ACTION #1: BE DETERMINED TO WIN EVERY 50/50  BALL.

We must pressure the ball at all times. We must out-cut the Schroeder players. Go for every 50/50 ball with 100% confidence that we will get the first touch. Try for everything. Run through the ball. Absolutely DO NOT get caught standing behind a Schroeder player when a ball enters your area of he field.

ACTION #2: FREIGHT TRAINS OUT OF CIRCLE IN DEEP DEFENSE.

We solid marking and consistently strong carries out of danger zone in our defense circle. Freight trains to sideline and then clear. Forwards need to get back to within 10-20 yards of our defenders to receive the outlet pass. The forwards need to fight for every outletted ball!

ACTION #3: VARY APPROACH TO ATTACK CIRCLE WHEN BALL ENTERING ON LEFT OR RIGHT

    1. Balls can be carried down either sideline Though, we may have more success entering attack circle from left as the weaker defender on Schroeder appears to be #14 RB and weaker midfielder appears to be #9 RM with red hair… #17 LB (our right side) appears to be the strongest Schroeder defender

    2. Right side balls should be crossed on diagonal toward goal between the 30-20 yd line (to avoid the left back who always stays deeper than ball and is out of bounds on end line to intercept a low cross)

    3. Left side balls can be carried on a right diagonal toward our attack circle and then ball sent to goal as quickly as possible

ACTION #4: TAKE IMPOSSIBLY FAST FREE HITS & SELF STARTS  (with focus being on getting ball to goal cage!)

    1. All free hits from 40 yd line and closer should go directly to goal cage. Hard hits. Hits taken quickly.

    2. Fast self-starts on free hits (no hesitation) will also be very effective against Schroeder

ADDITIONAL GAME PLAN NOTES:

  • If all 11 EHS players can keep up these 4 actions for the entire Q1 (just 15min), I think we will be successful in scoring more than one goal.

  • We need to give this game plan everything we’ve got for 15min.

  • If we are ahead by two goals at the end of Q1, I think we can move Nicole back to CB or even place 4 defenders back with Nicole and Quinn sharing coverage in the middle. As long as we are up by two goals and we have 4 defenders, the 3 Mids can be Shannon, Addy and Emma/Kenadie. The 3 Forwards can be Salice, Isla, Ambri/Camila

  • EHS 25 yard hits… best option for EHS on 25 yd hits will be fast self-start carries right and send directly to goal. If low on right side, most effective cross will be on an angle up to stroke mark. One deep defender is always out of bounds on endline when a ball is crossed low coming in from the right.

  • EHS RIGHT SIDE MID/DEFENSE CHANNEL… On SCH left side attack (our right), they like to one-hand left-side reverse carry ball down sideline. I think we can easily defeat this ball carrier with a channel and poke to steal ball or force ball carrier out of bounds.

  • EHS DEFENSE DIAGONAL:… If we have a lesser defensive unit without Casey, we may want to be careful not to let our deep defense diagonal go higher than the 40 or 50 so that we are ready for a Schroeder fast break. They had a few strong fast breaks in Q1. We need to be prepared for that.

  • PRESSURING SCH 25 yd hits… SCH often did a flat pass right on 25 yard hits. We should anticipate and intercept
