Proposed Practice Plan Today (Fri 9/26)
3:30-4 Varsity offense corner practice
—
4-4:10 Dynamic warmup
—
4:15-4:30 Cutting in front of of tires
I think the key to holding Sutherland back tomorrow will be the out-cutting SHS players… getting first touch on ball… going strong to goal. We have opportunity with SHS. I think they will underestimate us. They just crushed ER 8-0. They will view us like ER. If we start Q1 like we did at Brighton, we have a shot in this game.
With that in mind, I think today’s practice should track with our two previous practices. Cutting drills and first touch drills. On the cutting drills, the balls should come at them even faster than in previous two practices. Help get our defenders extra confident with hard hits for tomorrow. Get our mids and forwards further de-sensitized to hard hits coming at them.
—
4:30-4:45 Right side ball coming from 30 yard line to opposite goal post
I think we also need to work on right mid sending ball to opposite goal post from 30 yard line and have TOD and forwards practicing aligning themselves with path of ball to goal and adding a stick.
—
4:45-5 First touch toward goal
We should also review the first touch towards goal drill with defenders catching up to forwards. We can start with 2 forwards and 2 defenders, and then add a third forward trailing the action toward goal and a third defender already in circle to see play develop and practice making good decisions.
—
5-5:15 getting at least 1 player deeper than ball in defensive circle… feet out of bounds… to be able to stop a hard low cross from the right
I think this is one of our weaknesses. We’ve been scored on from incoming low cross several times this season
—
5:15-5:30 Quick review for all players … especially Shannon and Tori … on how to how to defend against Sutherland #3 who carries ball on left side of body with hands reversed.
When Sutherland played Fairport last Saturday, #3 played left wing most of the game, but was moved to center mid in Q4. When at left wing, she is quite fast and she will carry ball down left side if we let her. She will enter circle from left side, if we let her. We need to focus on doubling and channeling to stop her effectively… also well-timed jabs at ball will work.

Proposed Starting Line-Up For Tomorrow vs. Sutherland
I think if Addy is back, we may want to have her share the Right mid with Shannon to be strong in our defense against Sutherland #3 (fast left wing who carries ball on keft side of her body).
Nicole looked great at left mid and was very effective getting the ball into the circle from that angle. She stayed better engaged defensively as well. I think we should start Nicole at left mid.
We can have Emma and Kenadie share TOD. They can rotate from right wing to TOD throughout game (unless Emma wants to try TOD full time)
I think we should rotate Isla and Ambri at left wing to keep them both fresh. They should have 3 main responsibilities: 1) get back on defense 25 yrd line to receive outlet pass… pressure ball carrier and block up free hits… get to our goal cage at stroke or left post as soon as it looks like we are having a breakaway or when we have ball coming in from 30 yard line or from 25 yard hit)
